Dr Leonie Coxon (PhD)

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

  

Leonie Coxon currently works in private practice in clinical, forensic rehabilitation and neuropsychological areas, with an emphasis on stress and chronic pain management . She has also worked on a sessional basis in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, psychiatric hospitals and pain management centres.   

  

Over the past ten years Leonie supervised Masters students and graduates for generalist and specialist title registration in Western Australia and provided peer supervision to colleagues.  She has also given guest lectures on forensic psyhology, chronic pain and the effects of chemical substances on cognitive performance to a number of Universities in Western Australia.

The main theme of Leonie's work as a researcher has been the effect of substances on cognitive functioning and the rehabilitation of people with cognitive impairment. She has published peer reviewed papers and presented at a number of national and international conferences on rehabilitation and neuropsychological effects of chemicals on the brain.

Leonie become a member of the WA Committee of the APS College of Forensic Psychologists when it was first established in 2000, continuing in this role until 2007, after which she became National Secretary (2008 - present). She was chair of the Western Australian section and National Secretary of the Division of Independent Private Practicing Psychologists (2002-2006). She was a member of the APS Professional Practice Reference Group (2007-2010). Leonie became Chair of the APS, Perth, in 2008 and still serves this position.
